About the Role We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Engineering Team Leader to lead our Health Technology Operations team in Counties Manukau. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for managing and supporting a team of Clinical Engineering professionals who maintain, manage, and optimise medical equipment and technology used across healthcare services. You will provide both operational leadership and technical expertise, ensuring medical devices remain safe, compliant, reliable, and available to support exceptional patient care. Leading a team of clinical engineering staff, you will oversee the full lifecycle of health technology, from technology evaluation and procurement through to installation, maintenance, compliance management, decommissioning, and disposal. Key responsibilities include: Leading and developing a multidisciplinary Clinical Engineering team, providing technical leadership on a broad range of clinical technologies and medical devices. Managing the maintenance, repair, calibration, testing, and lifecycle management of medical equipment, as well as equipment recalls, safety alerts, risk assessments, and incident investigations. Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards, safety requirements, and regulatory obligations. Supporting equipment procurement, commissioning, onboarding, and acceptance testing activities. Developing team capability through coaching, mentoring, and workforce development initiatives Supporting service planning, budgeting, continuous improvement, and operational performance initiatives. About the Team The Health Technology Management (HTM) Operations team is responsible for the management, maintenance, and optimisation of medical equipment and technology that supports clinical services. The team plays a critical role in ensuring healthcare technology is safe, effective, and available to clinicians when they need it. Working alongside clinical services, procurement, supply chain, digital and infrastructure teams, HTM Operations supports the delivery of safe, high-quality healthcare across the region. About You You are an experienced Clinical Engineering professional with strong technical expertise and a passion for leading people. You thrive in complex healthcare environments and enjoy balancing hands-on technical work with operational leadership responsibilities. You will bring: A relevant tertiary engineering qualification (NZQA Level 5/6 or equivalent practical experience). At least 7 years' experience in Clinical Engineering or a related field. Experience mentoring, supervising, or leading technical teams. Strong knowledge of medical equipment lifecycle management and clinical engineering operations. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as strong communication and stakeholder management abilities. A commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance. A full New Zealand driver's licence Registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) as an Electrical Appliance Serviceperson - Medical endorsement, or the ability to obtain registration within required timeframes. Qualification in Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Physics, or a related discipline. Postgraduate qualifications in Health Technology Management, Business, or leadership. Experience within large healthcare environments and knowledge of accreditation and audit frameworks.
