Aboutthe Role The WhaikahaUnit is a 4-bed in-patient Intellectual Disability (ID) unit at HillmortonHospital. We provide specific regional clinical assessment and treatment to ourtāngata whaiora who present with challenging behaviour and, if subject to theIntellectual Disability Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation Act (IDCC& R Act2003), will have forensic considerations in their support plans. Our aim is toenable our staff to make a real difference in the lives of people across theSouth Island. The work is fast paced, varied and valued with the opportunity tocontribute meaningfully to the development of a model of care and building anew high care unit within our current facilities. We are committed to becominga centre for excellence for ID services. This role isfor a Clinical Psychologist with experience working with ID tāngata whaiora andin Mental health and/or forensic services. Yourprofessional expertise will be utilised to guide through risk assessments,diagnoses, and to critically deliver various interventions to an intricate butfascinating group of adult patients -to support those individuals tobuild a meaningful life Your professionalism and dedication to providing high-qualitypatient care will ensure your success in this role, and your communication andtime management skills will enable you to function well as a member of thelarger multidisciplinary team. Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or acommitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning andgrowth Experience in projects / initiatives which give effect to TeTiriti principals and frameworks, and the application of Mātauranga Māori andKaupapa Māori approaches, particularly as they apply in healthcare settings.
