We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Technician – Research to join our Ecosystems & Conservation Team based in Lincoln. Our team undertakes research that helps improve understanding of how species and ecosystems function, and how they can be restored, protected, and managed sustainably. We work across diverse landscapes and timescales, using ecological data, specialised laboratories, field sites and nationally important datasets to support conservation, land management and environmental decision-making. In this role, you will provide technical support across a range of ecological and biodiversity research activities, helping deliver high-quality science that contributes to the sustainable management and restoration of New Zealand's ecosystems. The key focus of the role is supporting the National Vegetation Survey (NVS) databank by digitising, validating and managing vegetation plot data. You will work closely with researchers, data providers and data users to ensure information is accurate, accessible and fit for purpose. You will also contribute to project planning, data management, continuous improvement initiatives and the maintenance of shared resources within the NVS databank team. This position is permanent and may be part-time or full-time, negotiable 0.6 FTE (22.5 hours per week) to 1.0 FTE (fulltime - 37.5 hours per week), reports to a Capability Leader, and is based at our Lincoln site. The starting remuneration would be between $76,500 to $85,000 (full time equivalent) per annum depending on relevant experience. To be successful in this role, you must have: The ability to enter complex data quickly and accurately. Experience working with databases, spreadsheets or other data management systems. Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail. Excellent time management with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. Experience with ecological, conservation, biodiversity or environmental data In addition, you will ideally have: An understanding of scientific methods, experimental design and data management principles. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A strong commitment to quality, continuous improvement and health and safety practices. An understanding of and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in your work. A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in ecology, environmental science, biology, geography, data science, or a related field.
