House Manager – Intellectual Disability Services Avonside House Trust is a not-for-profit organisation providing quality residential support to adults with intellectual disabilities. We are committed to person-centred practice, upholding the rights of the people we support, and creating opportunities for them to live meaningful and fulfilling lives within their communities. We are seeking an experienced and motivated House Manager to join our leadership team. As a House Manager, you will provide operational leadership across three residential homes, ensuring high-quality support, strong staff performance, and compliance with the Health and Disability Services Standards and organisational policies. About the Role This is a varied leadership role where no two days are the same. You will work closely with the Service Manager to ensure our services are safe, responsive, and person-centred. Key responsibilities include: Leading, coaching and supporting residential support teams. Promoting a positive, professional and accountable team culture. Ensuring the people we support receive high-quality, person-centred support. Monitoring service quality and ensuring compliance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements. Overseeing Individual Support Plans, Lifestyle Plans and risk management documentation. Supporting recruitment, induction, performance management and staff development. Managing rosters, staffing levels and operational issues. Investigating incidents and implementing continuous improvement initiatives. Building positive relationships with families, whānau, health professionals and other stakeholders. Reviewing weekly menus to ensure meals are nutritious, varied, culturally appropriate, meet individual dietary requirements, and comply with the organisation's nutritional standards. Working flexible hours as required to meet the operational needs of the residential homes, including responding to service demands and participating in an on-call leadership roster. About You You are an experienced leader who is passionate about supporting people with intellectual disabilities to live the lives they choose. You will bring: Previous leadership or supervisory experience within the disability, health or community services sector. A strong commitment to person-centred practice and human rights. Excellent communication, coaching and relationship-building skills. Sound organisational and problem-solving abilities.Experience managing staff performance and supporting professional development. Confidence using electronic documentation and maintaining accurate records. An understanding of quality improvement, risk management and compliance. The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in challenging situations. Full New Zealand Driver Licence. Eligibility to work in New Zealand. Relevant qualification in Health and Wellbeing, Disability Support, Human Services or a related field (or willingness to work towards one). Ability to obtain a satisfactory Police Vet. Current First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one). Willingness and ability to work flexible hours to meet the operational needs of the service, including occasional evenings, weekends and participation in the on-call leadership roster.
