University of Auckland offers hundreds of scholarships every year to new students embarking on undergraduate study. As well as the scholarships funded by the University, some faculties and generous donors also provide a wide range of scholarships for new undergraduate students. What scholarships can I apply for now? Applications are open for the scholarships below for both current Year 13 students planning to start university study in 2027 and those wishing to take a gap year in 2027 and start university study in 2028. Should I apply? These scholarships are valuable and there is a lot of competition for them. This means Auckland receives many more applications for scholarships than they are able to award. So simply being in the position where you are thinking of applying signals that you are a great student with a bright future ahead of you. As well as your academic prowess, your achievements in other areas and your personal circumstances will also be considered, so you can be sure that it is a level playing field for students across Aotearoa New Zealand. This scholarship is worth $32,000 in total. Applicants for a University of Auckland Top Achiever Scholarship with exceptional academic performance will be considered for this scholarship. No separate application is required. This scholarship is worth $27,000 in total, and rewards exceptional academic performance combined with outstanding sporting, artistic, cultural and/or leadership achievements. This scholarship is worth $27,000 in total, and recognises exceptional academic success from Māori tauira who have either engaged in Te Ao Māori, their community, the arts or played a leadership role in sports or cultural contexts. This scholarship is worth $27,000 in total, and recognises students with Pacific heritage, who have excellent academic records and active participation in community, cultural and other activities. This scholarship supports students demonstrating academic achievement, taking into account a number of factors that can impact on an individual's ability to participate fully at university. The individual value of the scholarship depends on which tier is awarded. This scholarship is worth $23,000 in total and recognises Māori tauira who have strong engagement in either Te Ao Māori, their community, the arts or played an exceptional leadership role in sports or cultural contexts, as well as demonstrating academic ability. Timeline for applying for University of Auckland school-leaver scholarships Date Activity July Decide who you are going to ask to endorse your application. Confirm with them that they are happy to be your endorser and can complete this by the closing date. This involves providing them with evidence of your achievements so that they can be verified. Allow your endorser enough time to write you an endorsement. 1 -12 August Applications for Accommodation open on 1 August. Make sure you have applied by 11.59am on 12 August. Early-August Now is the time for you to follow up with your endorser to make sure it will be submitted by the closing date. Aim to submit your application at least one week before the closing date. You will receive an automated email once your application has been submitted successfully. 12 August Applications close with the Scholarships Office at 11.59am. Mid-August The Scholarships Office begins assessing applications. Late August Online applications for a range of subject specific scholarships open (find out more via the Faculty specific pages in the Related links box or visit our Applications open now page). Applications are considered by a Selection Committee. Early-October You can expect to receive the outcome of your application in early October. This will be sent to the email address you used in your scholarship application. October If you are selected for a scholarship, congratulations! You must accept this offer within two weeks. Throughout October Applications close for other first year scholarships, including subject specific scholarships. Outcomes for these Scholarships will be announced in December. January NCEA, CIE, IB results are released. The Scholarships Office will check to make sure you have met the requirements for eligibility to take up the Scholarship and will confirm your scholarship status with you.
