Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) serves a large and diverse area, key towns include Raglan, Huntly, Ngaaruawaahia, Tuakau and Te Kauwhata. Smaller settlements include Gordonton, Matangi, Tamahere, Meremere, Port Waikato and Pookeno. About this role: We're looking for two highly organised and customer-focused Democracy Advisors to support Council's democratic processes and decision-making. We have one permanent and one 12-month fixed-term opportunity available, both full-time (40 hours per week). This is an exciting opportunity to work closely on governance advice, and professional committee advisory services to Council, The Mayor, Elected Members, Community Boards and other key stakeholders. This is to ensure meetings and governance processes run smoothly and meet legislative requirements. What I do? Support the delivery of Council, committee, and community board meetings. Coordinate meeting schedules, agendas, minutes, and governance documentation. Maintain accurate records and information within Council systems. Deliver timely advice on relevant legislation, standing orders, policies, and procedures. You will add value to the organisation by providing advice on standing orders, discretionary funding processes and report recommendations. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure work programmes are adhered to, and our elected members can make informed decisions. What I bring? Experience in governance, administration, local government, or a similar environment. Strong written communication and document management skills. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Confidence working with elected members, senior leaders, and stakeholders. Sound judgement, discretion, and professionalism. Strong digital literacy and experience using information systems.
