At Stats NZ, we're building a modern, centralised recruitment function that operates with the pace, professionalism and customer focus of a recruitment agency. Our hiring managers are our clients, our candidates are our ambassadors, and we're committed to delivering an end-to-end recruitment service that people genuinely value. From workforce planning and talent mapping through to sourcing strategies, role design and capability building, we're focused on providing proactive, strategic support that helps the business attract great people. Reporting to the Senior Manager, People Operations and Data, this leadership opportunity is ideal for someone who believes recruitment can be more than a transactional process. Someone who sees the value of trusted partnerships, exceptional candidate experiences, and strategic talent advice that helps organisations succeed. You'll be joining us at an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our recruitment capability and evolve the way we support leaders across the organisation. You'll lead a team of six recruiters located across the country, supporting them to deliver outstanding recruitment outcomes while continuing to evolve our service offering. This is a role where you'll have the opportunity to influence, improve and lead. You'll bring fresh thinking, challenge the status quo when needed, and help us build a recruitment function that's trusted, respected and known for excellence. Mō te tūnga | About the role As Team Lead, Recruitment & Talent Acquisition, you'll lead the day-to-day operation of our centralised recruitment function while contributing to broader People and Culture priorities. The team is responsible for delivering end-to-end recruitment services across the organisation, partnering closely with leaders to attract, assess and appoint great people who will help us achieve our strategic and operational goals. You'll provide strong leadership to your team, creating an environment where people are supported, challenged and empowered to deliver their best work. You'll set clear expectations of what ‘good’ looks like, foster a culture of accountability and ownership, and help your team continually build their capability and confidence. You'll also work alongside leaders across the organisation, building trusted partnerships and providing practical, strategic advice. Whether it's workforce planning, talent sourcing, role design, market insights or attraction strategies, you'll help hiring managers make informed decisions and achieve successful outcomes. This is a hands-on leadership role. While you'll spend much of your time leading and enabling your team, you'll also be comfortable stepping in to lead recruitment activity yourself when required. You understand what great recruitment looks like because you've done it, and you're willing to roll up your sleeves to support the team when needed. You'll be joining us during a period of growth and evolution, making this a particularly rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys building capability, embedding new ways of working, and continuously improving services, systems and processes. At its heart, this role is about creating a recruitment service that people trust, value and want to work with. Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring You’ll be a seasoned recruitment professional who understands what exceptional recruitment service looks like and knows how to consistently deliver it. Significant end-to-end recruitment experience in a partnership-centric environment and a genuine passion for helping organisations find and attract great people. An understanding of the importance of balancing candidate experience, stakeholder needs and organisational outcomes, while maintaining pace and quality throughout the process. People will trust your judgement because you combine strong recruitment expertise with a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach. Most importantly, you'll be someone who cares deeply about delivering a great experience for hiring managers, candidates and your team. Previous people leadership experience would be beneficial, but it isn't essential. We would also welcome applications from experienced Principal or Senior recruiters who have demonstrated leadership capability and are ready to take the next step in their career.
