Help ensure the accuracy behind one of Council's most important functions Are you analytical, detail-focused, and passionate about working with data? We're looking for a Rates Analyst to join our Finance team on a fixed-term contract through to December 2026. In this role, you'll play a key part in ensuring rates are assessed, billed and managed accurately and in accordance with legislation and Council policy. Your work will directly support our community by helping maintain accurate property and customer information while ensuring ratepayers receive the right information at the right time. Āu ake mahi | What you'll do As our Rates Analyst, you'll be the subject matter expert for rates processing and analysis, supporting the delivery of Council's rating functions and maintaining the integrity of our rating systems and databases. You’ll be responsible for: Generating rates, notices, invoices and other billing transactions Processing direct debits, rate rebates, refunds, remissions and other rates-related transactions Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Rating Information Database Undertaking data reconciliations and investigations to identify and resolve discrepancies Providing specialist advice and support to customer service and rates helpdesk teams Producing reports and undertaking data analysis to support business requests, planning activities, councillor queries and LGOIMA requests Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure property, customer information remains accurate and up to date Supporting the interpretation and implementation of rating legislation, policies and system enhancements Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and customer outcomes Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience You’ll bring a Diploma in Finance, Systems or a related field, or equivalent experience, together with at least four years' experience working in a rates, finance, ERP systems or high-volume data environment. You'll have experience working with large transactional datasets, strong numerical and reconciliation skills, and a high level of accuracy when processing and maintaining information. You’ll have a good understanding of legislative and policy requirements, ideally including the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002, and be confident applying rules and policies to individual situations to determine appropriate outcomes. Proficiency with database systems and the Microsoft Office suite is essential, along with the ability to quickly learn new systems and technical processes. Most importantly, you’ll be detail-oriented, organised and reliable, with the ability to work to tight deadlines, manage repetitive processes accurately, and consistently deliver high-quality work We are looking to appoint between $74,141 and $87,224 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.
