Taurus Engineering – Christchurch, South Island Christchurch: Taylors Manufacturing / Taurus Engineering Employment Type Full-time, Permanent We are well established steel fabricators delivering structural steel assemblies, fabricated equipment, and engineered products to the resources, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. To strengthen our product quality in the light of a full order book we require the skills of an experienced QC Engineer. Furthermore, we are in the process of establishing a structured Quality Management System aligned to ISO 9001:2015. The QC role is a key part of making that investment pay off on the shop floor. The Role The QC Engineer role covers traditional QC duties (e.g. inspection, audit, NCR management) and will also be an integral part of our structured Quality Management System implementation aligned to ISO 9001:2015. Key Responsibilities Shopfloor Inspection and Quality Checking In-process and final inspections of fabricated steel assemblies, structural components, and engineered products against drawings, specifications, ITPs, and applicable standards. Identify nonconformances clearly and consistently, using objective evidence (measurements, photographs, mark-ups). Work collaboratively with fabricators, supervisors, management, suppliers and customers to resolve NCR’s/CAR’s Participate in pre-job kickoff checks and commissioning/handovers. Quality Management System (QMS) Contribution Maintain accurate and complete inspection records, ITPs, and NCR documentation in accordance with ISO 9001:2015. Review and contribute to the development of ITPs, inspection checklists, and quality procedures for new job types. Identify recurring nonconformance patterns. Support internal and external audits. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication Working with fabricators: Build productive working relationships on the shop floor. Working with Project Engineers: Communicate quality status on active jobs, flag risks to schedule arising from quality issues, and ensure QA documentation is ready for project handover. Management liaison: Provide SME support with respect to corporate objectives Client & third-party inspectors: Liaise professionally with client representatives and independent inspectors. Qualifications and Experience Qualifications — What We’re Looking For Either tertiary qualification (engineering related) and/or trade qualifications with demonstrated QA systems experience. Quality-specific certifications are advantageous. Experience — Essential Demonstrated experience in a quality inspection or quality assurance role — at least 1 year preferred. Proven ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, dimensional tolerances, and material specifications. Experience completing and maintaining inspection records, ITPs, or similar quality documentation. Experience identifying, raising, and tracking nonconformances through to resolution. Demonstrable ability to work constructively with production, trades and management personnel on quality issues Computer literate and capable of working with various systems (e.g. AR, MES, cloud-based apps). Applicants must have a valid NZ work visa, permanent residency, or citizenship. Experience — Preferred Experience in steel fabrication, structural steel, pressure vessels, or engineering manufacturing. Familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 QMS requirements.
