Registrarial Administrator Waitangi Tribunal Unit, WellingtonMinistry of Justice The Waitangi Tribunal is a permanent commission of inquiry charged with making recommendations on claims brought by Māori relating to Tiriti o Waitangi. It holds a unique place in the New Zealand constitutional framework. The Tribunal's work includes registering claims, conducting and analysing research, liaising with external claimant parties, and writing reports. Te Haeata/The OpportunityThe Registrarial Administrator supports the Waitangi Tribunal by performing functions that are essential to the effective operation of the organisation. These functions include:Administrative & Research Support to the Registrar, Senior Records & Information Advisor, Deputy Registrars and Assistant RegistrarsRelationship ManagementContributing to the team effectiveness in the Claims and Registrarial team Ō pūkenga/Skills and ExperienceTo be successful in the role you will have:Experience in providing administration servicesPrior experience in a legal environment - law student, law firm or court environment - where the importance and accuracy of the legal process has been learned is desirable;Ability to undertake legal, policy and procedural research;Ability to manage a number of tasks simultaneouslyStrong time management and organisational skillsHigh level of attention to detail and high standards of accuracyExperience as a member of a multi-skilled team and supporting team membersStrong oral and written communication skills are essentialExperience and knowledge of appropriate office PC-based technologies, including Microsoft Office suite, web and database applications, and online data resourcesKnowledge and understanding of statutory requirements in relation to the Treaty of Waitangi, and of protocols and procedures relevant to the Waitangi Tribunal is highly desirableKnowledge of, and respect for, Māori cultural values and customs (tikanga) is highly desirableKnowledge of Te Reo Māori and/or a willingness to continue learning.Knowledge of and commitment to the work of the Waitangi Tribunal is highly desirableExperience using administrative skillsA commitment to further develop your knowledge in Te Reo and Tikanga Māori will be an advantage.
