We are seekinga full time Kai Manaakito joinourChild Healthteam.


As Kai Manaaki, you will work alongside the extended care team andvarious healthprogrammes within thePinnacle Midlands Health Network in theLakes region.Kai Manaakiplaya key rolewithin ourservices available to the communityandare comfortableworking withtamariki(children), whanau(family), andwhaiora(health users)from varyingcultures andbackgrounds.Your focus will be to work alongside the Child Health and Community Nurse team to support amobile outreach service for immunisations.


As aKai Manaaki,you offer valuable network knowledge that can beutilisedtoprovidesupportoptionsto whanauand other health userswith theaimtoimproveequitablehealthoutcomes.A key goal is to work in a solution focussedway,you willworkalongsidewhanauandidentifyenablerswhichempowerwhanauin achievingtinorangatiranga(self-determination).


Our Kai Manaakialsoworkclosely with theextended care teamtoidentifyenablersfor achievingequitablehealth outcomesacrossthe Taupo andTurangicommunities.Effective communicationskillsare necessary as Kai Manaaki are contacting and liaisingwith whanauas well ascentral and local service providersdaily.An understanding of ateaoMaori approachwill help guide engagement whiledeveloping trusting relationships built onkey values such astika(withfairness), pono(with integrity), and aroha(with compassion).


Utilising yourcommunityknowledge,you will work with whanau tosupport theirdevelopingknowledgeand understandingofHauora(health and well-being), whileconnectingthemwithlocalserviceoptionsas needed.Thismayincludeproviding access to information in a waythat whanaufeel informed and confident in their health decision making.


Reporting to theChildImmunisation ImprovementNurse, you will support whanau to liaise with and navigate the health system through the community, generalpracticeand immunisation services,prioritising a whanau and child health focus.

In order tobe successful in this role, you will:

  • Haveahigh levelof culturalintelligence,knowledgeand experience of Maori models of healthand wellbeingand a commitment towards achieving equity for Maori.
  • A strong understanding of Tikanga Maori along with a sound understanding of the principles of the TeTiritio Waitangi and how these relate to specific initiatives for Maori health.
  • Embrace the philosophy ofwhanau led decision making
  • Have a NZQA Level 4 healthcare qualification/similar equivalentorbe prepared to work towards this.
  • Have relevant lived experience so you can use yourmatauranga(knowledge) to influence positive health outcomes and support people on their journey to wellbeing.
  • Value the importance ofmanaakitanga, and a collaborative approach with whanau.
