Pastoral Care Consultant (International)
Whitecliffe | Auckland City Campus | 40 hours per week I Fixed Term
This is a fixed-term opportunity to support pastoral care for Whitecliffe's growing international student community, working alongside our existing Pastoral Care Consultant to ensure every student - domestic or international - has the right support at the right time throughout their studies.
About Whitecliffe
Whitecliffe is a leading independent tertiary institution in New Zealand, renowned for delivering innovative, industry-connected education. With campuses in Auckland, Manukau, Wellington, and Christchurch, we pride ourselves on having teaching staff with extensive industry experience who support our graduates to turn creativity into a career.
About You
You bring genuine care and professionalism to supporting students through the personal, cultural, social, and academic challenges that can affect their progress. You understand that for international students, adjusting to life in New Zealand involves more than academic settling-in, it includes navigating immigration requirements, an unfamiliar culture and city, and often being far from home and existing support networks.
You communicate clearly and build trust easily with students and staff from a wide range of backgrounds, and you're comfortable maintaining accurate, compliant records while managing sensitive and confidential information. You're motivated by creating a genuinely positive experience for students, not only responding to issues as they arise, but building the resources, relationships, and processes that help students settle, adjust, and succeed.
Key Responsibilities
As an International Student Pastoral Care Consultant, you will:
- Provide assistance to individual international students who are struggling or dealing with issues that may impede their academic progress, equipping them with suitable skills and support to study effectively
- Design and coordinate settling-in and orientation support to help international students adjust to study and life in New Zealand
- Support international students as outlined in the Code of Pastoral Care for International Students, ensuring all immigration requirements are met, including visa, health insurance, and immigration tracking
- Ensure students are aware of the services provided by the pastoral care service, including access to external services that support their wellbeing.
- Maintain records consistent with professional best practice, including recording, monitoring, and liaising with faculty regarding student concerns or issues
-
Work alongside the existing Pastoral Care Consultant to ensure joined-up, consistent support is available to both international and domestic students
What You Will Bring
- Previous experience working with students in a support role, ideally with international students
- Effective communication skills, both written and oral
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective, positive relationships with students and staff from a wide range of backgrounds
- Working knowledge of visa conditions, immigration requirements, or the Code of Pastoral Care for International Students, or a demonstrated ability to build this knowledge quickly
-
Strong organisational skills and the ability to maintain accurate, confidential records
Desirable
- Good understanding and knowledge of the Tertiary sectors and programmes
- Experience within the New Zealand tertiary education sector
- Cultural insight or lived experience relevant to Whitecliffe's international student cohorts
