Tā mātou arawātea | Our Opportunity: We’re looking for a Graduate Drilling Engineer to join our Well Engineering team in Rotorua and build a strong foundation in geothermal drilling and well engineering. This is a hands‑on graduate opportunity where you’ll learn from experienced drilling and well engineering specialists, gaining exposure to both office‑based engineering and field‑based operations. You’ll support the safe delivery of drilling, well intervention and monitoring works across Mercury‑owned wells and associated equipment, while developing practical capability in well design, drilling programmes, technical documentation, cost estimating, materials planning, asset integrity and continuous improvement. When drilling activity is underway, you’ll spend time on site seeing how operations are delivered and providing engineering support to our rig site teams. You’ll also build knowledge across geothermal wells, well integrity, process safety, environmental compliance and the standards that guide safe geothermal drilling in Aotearoa. What you'll be doing: Supporting the development of fit-for-purpose geothermal well designs Preparing drilling programmes, technical information and bills of materials Supporting drilling and well intervention activity, including performance monitoring Participating in risk assessments, after action reviews and lessons learned Providing technical and field support for well intervention and monitoring works We are looking for: A relevant engineering degree Strong written and verbal communication skills A strong health, safety and environmental focus Professionalism, integrity and a willingness to learn An interest in geothermal operations, drilling engineering and well integrity Eligibility to work in New Zealand Awareness of NZS 2403, well design, wireline operations, process safety or geothermal reservoir and steamfield operations would be helpful, but we’re looking for potential as much as experience.
