Registered Nurse - Ward A2

About the Role Ward A2 is a Respiratory ward. Internal medicine is a business cluster that delivers care to inpatient general medical, respiratory and renal patients. A planned rotation of registered nurses throughout the cluster will occur, thus providing greater learning and clinical practice opportunity. Respiratory Nursing is an excited opportunity to deliver care to patients who have chronic conditions such as COPD, ILD, asthma, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis. We manage any respiratory conditions affecting the lungs, this includes lung cancer and tuberculosis. Working in respiratory also gives you the opportunity to develop very specialized nursing skills such as learning how to manage patients requiring NIV (non-invasive ventilation) - this includes BIPAP and AIRVO management. For nurses who have long term goals to work in ICU and HDU, working in respiratory for a couple of years is a stepping stone to develop some of these very critical skills that they can further develop in these speciality areas. Key responsibilities: Deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred nursing care Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients with a range of medical conditions Monitor and respond to changes in patient condition, escalating concerns when needed Administer medications and treatments in line with clinical guidelines Support patients with respiratory therapies, including oxygen and non-invasive ventilation where required Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care Provide education and support to patients and their families Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation Promote a safe working environment and adhere to infection control practices Participate in ongoing learning and professional development About the Team/Service Waikato Hospital can offer you: A strong supportive and collegial work environment Access to quality training and professional development opportunities Professional on the job training As well as having the opportunity to develop your nursing skills we are a very cohesive team on Ward A2 and teamwork is highly valued and supported.
