Job Description
At Draftline, we deliver tailored architectural solutions with a client-first approach. We take the time to understand each project—balancing design, budget, and practical requirements to bring our clients’ vision to life. From concept through to consent, we manage the full process. This includes architectural drawings, 3D renders, record drawings, and design amendments, along with coordinating engineers and specialists where needed. We simplify the complex—handling council submissions, securing approvals, and ensuring all plans meet regulatory requirements. We also provide clear planning advice so clients understand what’s possible on their site. Our goal is simple: make the process seamless and deliver build-ready outcomes that reflect our clients’ ideas, not ours. About the role Draftline is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Architectural Technician to join our Christchurch team. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled professional who enjoys delivering high‑quality projects, solving complex design challenges, and contributing to the success of a growing architectural practice. In this role, you will play a key part in the successful delivery of a diverse range of residential and commercial projects, preparing and coordinating accurate architectural documentation from concept through to consent and construction. You will apply your strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and understanding of construction methodologies to ensure projects are practical, compliant, and aligned with client expectations. As a Senior Architectural Technician, you will provide technical guidance and support across the Architectural Team, sharing knowledge, mentoring developing team members, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of documentation standards, processes, and project delivery. You will work collaboratively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to coordinate project requirements and achieve exceptional outcomes. About You This opportunity is suited to an experienced Senior Architectural Technician who brings strong technical capability, a passion for quality design, and a commitment to delivering accurate, practical, and compliant architectural solutions. The successful candidate will enjoy collaborating with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to deliver exceptional project outcomes. You will have: A minimum of 5 years’ experience within an architectural design, documentation, or senior architectural technician role. Proven experience delivering complex residential and/or commercial projects from concept design through to consent and construction documentation. Strong knowledge of architectural documentation processes, construction methodologies, detailing, and New Zealand Building Code requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, coordinate project information, and deliver accurate, high‑quality documentation within agreed timeframes. Advanced Archicad skills, with the ability to produce, review, and coordinate detailed architectural documentation. A Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) qualification is preferred but not essential. Strong technical expertise and a practical understanding of buildable design solutions, with a focus on quality, efficiency, and innovation. Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members, sharing knowledge, and contributing to the development of technical capability within a team environment. You will also demonstrate: Exceptional attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy, quality, and compliance. Strong understanding of residential and/or commercial construction processes, materials, and industry standards. The ability to interpret client needs and translate requirements into practical, cost‑effective, and well‑considered design solutions. Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines. Confident communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and collaborate effectively with a range of stakeholders. Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to identify technical challenges, evaluate options, and deliver effective solutions. A customer‑focused approach, with the ability to provide professional advice and build trusted client relationships. A proactive mindset, with a commitment to continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and maintaining high technical standards. Why Join Draftline?
