Nurse Practitioner or NP Candidate, Respiratory Medicine Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora - Southern – Manawatu County Location: Palmerston North Hospital, 0.6 -0.7 (hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant). About the Role Join a highly specialised respiratory and sleep service where advanced nursing practice makes a tangible difference to patient outcomes, access, and experience. We have an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Nurse Practitioner Candidate (NPC) to work within the respiratory and sleep service, providing expert clinical care. In this advanced practice role, you will deliver autonomous, evidence-based assessment and management, while also working collaboratively with Senior Medical Officers and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, consistent, and timely treatment. You will have the opportunity to develop and deliver nurse-led clinics, contribute to case management and referral pathways, and support service development that improves access for patients and their families/whānau across the region. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced respiratory nurse who is already endorsed as a Registered Nurse Prescriber, and ready to step into a supported candidate role. What You'll be doing Practising both independently and collaboratively to assess, diagnose, and manage health needs within the respiratory service. Completing advanced clinical assessments, including differential diagnoses, and ordering/interpreting diagnostic and laboratory investigations. Delivering treatment interventions and therapies aligned to scope and service models of care. Providing nurse-led clinics, care coordination, and partnering with patients, families/whānau, and community services across care settings. Contributing to clinical leadership, quality improvement, and service development activities. About you Respiratory experience: Minimum 4 years' recent clinical nurse specialist experience in a respiratory setting. NZ registration: Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). Endorsed NP / candidate pathway: Nurse Practitioner (meeting NCNZ requirements) or ready to progress as a Nurse Practitioner Candidate with a clear pathway toward endorsement. Te Tiriti o Waitangi: Demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations and ability to apply Te Tiriti principles meaningfully in practice. Regional service delivery: Ability and willingness to provide care across multiple sites, including regional travel as required.
