You will work alongside existing component engineering capability while supporting new product development, supplier engagement, component compliance and engineering change activity across a fast-moving product environment. What you’ll be doing You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and approving electronic components for use in advanced hardware product designs. This will involve working closely with design engineers, embedded engineers, supply chain, purchasing, suppliers and vendors to ensure components meet technical, reliability, availability and compliance requirements. You will review datasheets, assess component specifications, evaluate alternatives, understand component origin and availability, and support sourcing decisions where reliability, compliance, cost or supply chain risk need to be considered. A key part of the role will be maintaining accurate component data and documentation. This will include entering and managing data in internal systems, translating technical information from datasheets, supporting environmental compliance documentation, and ensuring component records are accurate and usable for engineering teams. You will also support engineering change processes, including PCN, ECR, MCO and ECO reviews and approvals within the company’s PLM system. You will need to bring strong technical judgement, attention to detail and the confidence to challenge or reject approvals where components do not meet the required standard. What you’ll bring You will ideally have a degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent technical experience, along with around 8+ years’ experience in electronics, hardware, component engineering, product development or a closely related environment. You will have strong electronics knowledge and a practical understanding of electronic component families, manufacturers and suppliers. You do not need to have worked specifically in power electronics, but you do need to understand the language of electronic devices and be comfortable working with components such as transistors, semiconductors, GaN devices, ICs, passives, connectors and related hardware. You will also need a strong understanding of component compliance requirements, particularly RoHS and REACH . Prior experience working with environmental compliance documentation, component declarations, datasheets or supplier compliance information would be highly valuable. Experience with component selection, component qualification, alternate part evaluation, BOMs, supplier engagement, lifecycle management, obsolescence, PCNs, ECOs or PLM systems would be highly relevant. You’ll be well suited to this role if you have experience with: Electronic component selection, evaluation and approval Reading datasheets and comparing technical specifications RoHS, REACH and environmental compliance documentation Component origin, availability and supply chain considerations Alternate component sourcing and second-source evaluation BOM, AVL, AML or component database management Component lifecycle, obsolescence or supplier change activity PCN, ECR, ECO, ECN or MCO review processes PLM/PDM systems such as Arena, Agile, Windchill, Teamcenter or similar Working with design engineers, embedded engineers, purchasing and suppliers Communicating directly with vendors and internal technical teams High-reliability electronics, hardware products or regulated product environments What’s on offer You will be joining a well-established global technology company with a strong Christchurch-based R&D presence and a growing pipeline of complex, meaningful engineering work.
