We’re looking for a Planning & Development Technical Support person to join our dynamic Planning & Development team in a permanent role based in our Queenstown office. What you’ll be doing / He aha te mahi A key role within our Planning & Development team, you’ll be helping to facilitate the smooth running of the team. This role is dedicated to supporting the Planning Policy team by ensuring the District Plan and associated materials remain current and that all statutory processes are followed. The position plays a key part in coordinating the District Plan review, including organising hearings, supporting stakeholder and community consultation, and managing Council involvement in Environment Court appeals. The role also contributes to general administrative tasks across the wider department as needed. The role will involve: Coordinate activities, projects, work programmes, and administrative support across the Planning Policy and Planning & Development Technical Support teams. Manage procurement processes, including contract setup, service orders, communications and financial requirements and process all related invoices and purchase card transactions. Support the ongoing maintenance and improvement of the District Plan and Planning Policy website, ensuring updates reflect decisions, plan changes, and minor amendments. Assist with public notifications, hearings, appeals, and other statutory processes to support policy development and implementation. Work with the Manager Planning & Development Technical Support to identify legal and financial risks and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department. Train new staff and external consultants to ensure understanding of organisational expectations and processes. What you’ll bring to the role / Ko wai to Pukeka The ideal candidate is a highly organised and detail-focused professional who can coordinate complex workflows across multiple teams, manage procurement and financial processes, and support statutory planning activities. They will bring strong administrative capability, the ability to identify risks and contribute to continuous improvement, and the confidence to train and support staff and external consultants To best succeed in this role, you’ll have: Tertiary diploma qualified in a relevant discipline of business administration or Resource Management Act is preferred. 7+ years’ experience in senior administrative roles within the Resource Management Act 1991 or NZ Local Government sector preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, website/content management, and Adobe Digital Publishing. Proven experience in process and system improvement. Strong planning, organisation, and attention to detail. A relevant business tertiary qualification is desirable. Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with customers and stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative, ability to prioritise under pressure, and confidence managing multiple tasks and deadlines. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
