Job Description
Claymark Group Limited Partnership is New Zealand’s largest manufacturer and exporter of premium pine products made from sustainably managed radiata pine plantations in New Zealand’s central North Island. Employing over 650 employees across six sites, Claymark is experiencing growth and expansion. About the Role: We’re looking for a mechanically minded operator to support our modern sawmill operations. This is not a traditional “Saw Doctor” role. Our facility uses automated, CNC-style equipment, so the focus is on operating, adjusting, and maintaining machinery to keep production running efficiently. Shift pattern: Monday to Thursday - 3:00PM to 1:30 AM Key Responsibilities: Operate and support automated saw and cutting systems to ensure optimal performance Monitor equipment and identify opportunities to improve cutting quality and efficiency Carry out adjustments and minor programming changes on CNC-style machinery (where required) Troubleshoot faults and respond quickly to minimise downtime Support saw changes, blade management, and general upkeep of cutting equipment Assist with preventative maintenance and work alongside maintenance and engineering teams Contribute to planning and ensuring availability of consumables and spare parts Maintain a strong focus on health and safety in all tasks What We’re Looking For: We’re open to a range of backgrounds, but you’ll bring a strong mechanical mindset, ability to work with modern equipment, and a willingness to learn. Experience in the following will be beneficial: CNC operation or automated machinery Saw Doctoring Mechanical maintenance, fitting, or fabrication Sawmill or timber processing Key attributes: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think on your feet Mechanically minded with a hands‑on approach Comfortable working with modern machinery and systems Reliable, adaptable, and able to work as part of a team Committed to quality workmanship and continuous improvement Experience in saw doctoring is beneficial, but not essential. We’re more interested in your ability to work with modern equipment. Applicants for this position should have NZ residency/citizenship or a valid NZ work permit.
