Community Advocate - Family Violence Practitioner Te Whare Aio Maori Women's Refuge – Auckland, North Island Position Title: Community Advocate Family Violence Practitioner Location: Auckland Reports To: Practice Lead Service Area: Community Organisation Overview Te Herenga Tāngata Charitable Trust (THT CT) is a kaupapa Māori organisation committed to supporting wahine, tamariki and whānau experiencing whānau violence. Our services focus on safety, healing, empowerment, and long‑term wellbeing through culturally grounded practice. Organisational Structure Purpose of the Position To offer and provide access to THT services for wahine, tamariki and whānau who are experiencing family and intimate partner violence. This position is required to perform duties as set out in the position description and in accordance with the strategic plan of THT Inc. When appropriate all aspects of the work must include the needs of wahine and tamariki. An overall expectation is that all tasks are performed in a timely and professional manner, striving for the highest quality of performance and within the THT Inc Code of Conduct, Behavior and Ethics. Be able to work on our crisis line after-hours and weekends rostered. Key Responsibilities Whānau Support and Advocacy Case Management and Documentation; must be computer-literate Safety Planning and Risk Assessment Professional Relationships and Community Engagement Health and Safety Responsibilities Professional Development Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of family violence dynamics Strong communication and advocacy skills Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality Professional Expectations Kaimahi are expected to demonstrate the MANA values in all interactions in all that they do. This role is suitable to new or experienced Social Workers or equivalent who have a strong work ethic and resilience to work in a challenging environment where no two days are the same and be open to learning the THT way, bring your skills, and learn our way. Performance and Development Performance will be reviewed through regular supervision, case consults, and annual performance appraisal aligned to organisational values and service outcomes. About you Strong work ethic and integrity Highly organised A background in either social services/mental health/addictions/ DV and FV A social work qualification or equivalent essential Experience working with social services Strong relationship-building and community networking skills Highly developed written and oral communication skills Strong cultural competency Warm, empathetic, and able to focus on the needs of Maori Wahine and Tamariki A high level of personal and professional accountability Competent with computer software High energy is required to work with our whanau, no two days are the same.
