Kookaburra Veterinary Employment - Matamata, North Island Contract Mapperley Stud (NZ) seeks an enthusiastic, hardworking and dedicated equine veterinarian for the 2026 southern hemisphere breeding season. The successful applicant will provide care for the farm's bloodstock, with a primary focus on the breeding and foaling units. Mapperley Stud works closely with several senior local veterinarians and their support and guidance will be available throughout the season. This is an exciting opportunity to experience all aspects of stud and general medicine on this renowned Thoroughbred Stud based in Matamata, New Zealand. Mapperley Stud is a third-generation owned and operated stud who have been in the business of breeding and raising racehorses for over 60 years raising with champions such as, So You Think, Dundeel and Brutal. This fixed-term position (August 2026 - January 2027) is an excellent opportunity to advance your skills and knowledge in stud practice. Mapperley Stud is proud to stand three stallions in 2026, headlined by Champion 3 year old Savaglee as well as exciting young sire Armory - a champion son of the legendary Galileo. The stud anticipates foaling down approximately 120 mares, which provides ample opportunity for the successful applicant to gain further knowledge in this area. Some previous experience in equine reproduction and foal medicine is required. Applicants must be a New Zealand resident or eligible for a New Zealand work visa and have a primary degree registrable with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand.
