Job Description
We’re growing our National Employment team. This is an exciting opportunity for an intermediate-level lawyer (2–6 years' PQE) to join Employment Partner Fiona McMillan and her Auckland-based team, working on a diverse mix of high-quality advisory and advocacy-based files. You’ll advise both employers and employees on complex and often high-profile workplace issues, including employment disputes, investigations, restructures, health and safety matters, human rights issues, and workplace privacy. You'll also gain hands-on advocacy experience, representing clients in mediations, the Employment Relations Authority, and the Employment Court. Recognised nationally by Doyle’s Guide, Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, and through accolades including NZ Lawyer’s Elite Women, our Employment team is known for delivering exceptional outcomes while maintaining a genuinely collaborative and supportive culture. Advise employers and employees across employment, health & safety, human rights, privacy, and ACC matters. Represent clients in mediations, ERA investigations, and Employment Court proceedings. Research, analyse, and draft high-quality submissions, affidavits, and legal advice with autonomy and initiative Gain exposure across complex workplace issues including restructures, privacy matters, disciplinary matters, personal grievances, investigations, collective bargaining, and negotiated exits Support and mentor junior team members, developing your own leadership style Manage files end-to-end to deliver timely, high-quality outcomes for clients Contribute positively to team culture and support the firm’s strategic direction Take ownership of your professional development and career progression About You: You’ll bring 2–6 years’ PQE, ideally with an emphasis on employment law, with a wider background in litigation or dispute resolution. Solid experience in mediation or negotiation-heavy work will be highly valued.
