We're looking for a practical, proactive Caretaker to join our team at the Tāmaki Leadership Centre (TLC), located in the stunning coastal setting of Army Bay, Whangaparāoa. This is far more than a traditional caretaker role. You'll be responsible for helping keep this important NZDF leadership and training facility operating safely, efficiently and looking its best. Surrounded by native bush and coastline, you'll enjoy working in a unique environment where no two days are the same. From coordinating maintenance and caring for the grounds to supporting contractors and responding to operational requirements, you'll play an integral role in keeping the site running smoothly. About the role Reporting to the Building Supervisor, you'll be the on-site champion for the day-to-day operation, presentation and upkeep of the Tāmaki Leadership Centre. Your responsibilities will include: Coordinating scheduled and reactive maintenance activities Maintaining landscaped grounds, gardens and outdoor areas Supporting contractors and service providers working on site Monitoring asset condition and identifying maintenance requirements Assisting with maintenance planning and operational readiness Responding to day-to-day operational issues across the site Building positive working relationships with NZDF personnel and stakeholders Contributing to a safe, welcoming and professional environment. About you You'll be someone who enjoys being hands-on and takes genuine pride in maintaining high standards. Ideally you'll bring experience in: Facilities or property maintenance Grounds maintenance or landscaping Caretaking or building services A trade or technical background (desirable) Contractor coordination or operational support You'll also have: Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills A proactive approach and strong sense of ownership Great communication and relationship-building skills Confidence using Microsoft 365 and maintenance systems A current NZ Class 1 Driver Licence The ability to obtain and maintain NZDF security clearance.
