Job Description

We’re looking for a Parks Asset Inspection Officer to join our Parks Asset Management team and support the effective management of Ōtautahi Christchurch’s diverse parks and recreational infrastructure. About the team | Ko te rōpū nei The Parks Asset Management team is responsible for managing and maintaining a diverse portfolio of assets, from gardens and sports fields to bridges and buildings. We ensure the integrity of asset data to support evidence-based investment and sustainable asset management practices. About the role | Ko te mahi nei In this role, you’ll play a key part in the lifecycle management of Parks assets. Your mahi will include: Developing and delivering proactive and reactive inspection programmes. Conducting site-based inspections, validating asset data, and analysing inventory to provide reliable condition information. Updating the Council’s Asset Management System using GIS tools to maintain accurate records. Inspecting structural assets such as boardwalks, footbridges, and retaining walls, and escalating urgent maintenance needs. This role is critical to ensuring our parks remain safe, functional, and enjoyable for the community. You’ll bring: A tertiary qualification (Certificate or Diploma) in a relevant field. Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar environment. Practical knowledge of carpentry or construction principles for timber structures is desirable Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively. A current full NZ driver’s licence. Strong understanding of the lifecycle of various asset types. A copy of the position description is linked at the foot of the page. What’s in it for you? Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role.
