Help Make Smokefree Lives a Reality Across Mid and South Canterbury Waitaha Primary Health – Ashburton, South Island Location: Ashburton or Timaru (flexible) Hours: Full-time (1.0 FTE) – 0.8 FTE may be considered for the right candidate Mō te tūranga – About the Role Waitaha Primary Health and Waitaha PHO Aoraki are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Stop Smoking Practitioner to join our growing team, supporting communities and general practices across Mid and South Canterbury. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an innovative primary care organisation committed to improving health outcomes, reducing inequities, and supporting people and whānau to achieve their smokefree goals. As a Stop Smoking Practitioner, you will provide evidence-based smoking cessation support to individuals, whānau and communities through a range of community, outreach and primary care settings. You will work closely with general practices, health promotion teams, navigators and community providers to deliver person-centred, culturally responsive support that empowers people to make positive and lasting changes to their health and wellbeing. Working collaboratively with other Stop Smoking Practitioners across Waitaha, you will contribute to service development, share expertise and help ensure equitable access to smoking cessation support throughout the region. The role can be based in either Ashburton or Timaru , with regular travel across Mid and South Canterbury. Ngā kawenga – Key Responsibilities Provide one-on-one smoking cessation support in community, primary care and outreach settings. Build and maintain strong relationships with general practices throughout Mid and South Canterbury. Work collaboratively with Health Promotion teams to deliver coordinated community health initiatives. Partner with Navigators, Wellbeing teams and other community services to provide wrap-around support for clients and whānau. Promote smokefree services and referral pathways within communities and healthcare settings. Support equity-focused approaches that improve outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples and other priority populations. Maintain accurate client records, data collection and reporting requirements. Contribute to the ongoing development and continuous improvement of the smokefree service. Ideally, you will have: Experience working in health, primary care, community services, health promotion or a related field. Strong communication, engagement and relationship-building skills. A passion for supporting positive behaviour change. An understanding of the factors that influence health and wellbeing. A commitment to health equity and culturally responsive practice. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong organisational and time management skills. A current, full New Zealand driver's licence. Experience in smoking cessation services is desirable; however, training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
