About the Role As a Rural Hospital Medicine Trainee at Whakatāne Hospital, you'll work as part of a small, skilled, and supportive clinical team in a 110-bed provincial hospital serving a population of around 50,000. The hospital is accredited by the RNZCGP Division of Rural Hospital Medicine, and trainees are fully supervised according to the programme's framework. We currently offer four registrar positions, with the following rotations available: Other opportunities include Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and General Practice This role includes 24/7 medical cover alongside consultants, MOSS, and other registrars. A strong focus is placed on building a sustainable rural medical workforce while improving health equity for our predominantly Māori population—55% of ED presentations are Māori. The position is part of the Te Manawa Taki regional training network, which also provides training opportunities in Waikato, Lakes, and Bay of Plenty districts. About you As a Rural Hospital Medicine Trainee, you will: Be enrolled in the Division of Rural Hospital Medicine Training Programme Be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand Demonstrate a strong interest in rural and Māori health Show initiative, adaptability, and teamwork Be enthusiastic about working in a resourceful, rural setting All Applications Should Include Up-to-date CV and completed Te Whatu Ora online application.
