Challenge 2000 is a professional social work and youth development agency working with rangatahi and whānau across the Wellington region. We provide a wide range of services in the community, in schools and at our main base in Johnsonville. We have the privilege of providing social work services in six colleges in Porirua and the Hutt Valley (Te Awakairangi). The MASSiSS service (multi-agency support services in secondary schools) is a government funded service that locates social workers in specific low decile secondary schools. The presence of social workers in schools, provides an opportunity for early and responsive social work support for rangatahi and whānau. The social worker works collaboratively with the pastoral team, school leadership and teaching staff, whanau and community agencies, with the goal of supporting rangatahi to engage in education, have their health and wellbeing needs met, and ultimately to achieve their potential! The social worker will provide a range of interventions in response to the needs of students. This includes crisis and/or one-off responses, social work casework, group programmes and whānau support. The Challenge 2000 social worker will be based in the school during term-time and will be based at Challenge 2000’s main site in Johnsonville at other times. This role is a full-time role and will be based at Aotea College. Applicants must be: A qualified, innovative and experienced social worker Registered with the SWRB, hold a current Practicing Certificate or be eligible for registration Have a demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Committed to and experienced in working with Māori and Pacific communities Experienced in working with rangatahi and their whānau Committed to a strengths-based approach and empowering young people to achieve their dreams Solution-focused, goal-oriented and a critical thinker Committed to social justice and social transformation Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary college and community team Able to work independently, but know when to consult Able to network and build effective working relationships with other agencies Keen to develop new ways of supporting youth and families to develop their strengths and create the present and future they desire An interest and ability to facilitate innovative group programmes Ready to accept different challenges and be comfortable in ever changing environments Applicants also require: New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa Salary is aligned with the government Pay equity provisions.
