Programme Facilitators - Kaiarahi

Te Whare Ruruhau o Meri Trust is seeking a passionate and capable Programme Facilitator (Kaiārahi) to join our team in a permanent mandatory part-time role 24 hours per week. This is an opportunity to support tāne, whānau, and communities through the delivery of kaupapa Māori behaviour change programmes that promote wellbeing, healthy relationships, and positive futures. The primary focus of this role is co-facilitating the Te Pikinga Programme within Ngāwhā Correctional Facility, working alongside participants in the remand population to build practical life skills, strengthen wellbeing, and support positive change. There may also be opportunities to contribute to other Trust programmes and services over time. Full programme training will be provided. About the Role As a Programme Facilitator (Kaiārahi), you will work alongside a co-facilitator to create safe, engaging learning environments where participants can reflect, learn, and develop practical skills for positive change. You will facilitate structured group programmes, encourage participation, build positive relationships, and support participants through a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach. Key Responsibilities Co-facilitate the Te Pikinga Programme at Ngāwhā Correctional Facility. Create safe, respectful, and engaging group environments. Encourage participation, learning, and personal growth. Build positive relationships with participants and key stakeholders. Maintain programme records and follow organisational and prison protocols. Contribute positively to the wider team and organisational kaupapa. What We’re Looking For Experience facilitating groups, workshops, programmes, or community initiatives. Strong communication and relationship‑building skills. The ability to engage and motivate people from diverse backgrounds. An understanding of trauma-informed and strengths‑based practice. Emotional maturity, resilience, and sound professional judgement. A commitment to kaupapa Māori values and supporting positive change. A current Full New Zealand Driver Licence. Experience in social services, justice, mental health and wellbeing, addiction support, community development, or kaupapa Māori services would be advantageous.
