About the Role As a Public Health Nurse, you will provide a variety of health services to preschool, schoolchildren and young people, working with their families and school communities and collaboratively with agencies and health service providers. You will work from the base in Whakatāne, but the service is largely delivered in schools and people's homes. Public Health Nurses contribute to immunisation events in the community and may work in any of our specific programmes, such as B4 School checks, School Based Immunisation Programme or one-to-one work with the child and whanau. A key skill for Public Health Nurses is the ability to establish and maintain successful relationships with schools, whanau and community agencies. A large part of our work involves child protection, and we work closely with Oranga Tamariki and the Police. Public Health Nurses must be able to work autonomously as well as part of a team. About the Team/Service/ Location Our nursing team is part of the National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, and work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures for all) by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored. About you As a successful candidate, you will show and understand the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and are skilled in applying its principles effectively in your role. You build and maintain positive relationships at all levels and model an agile approach –try new approaches, learn quickly, adapt fast. You are able to utilise advanced nursing knowledge and skills through reflective practice, critical thinking and professional judgement to provide competent care and advice while working to top of scope. Current registration with Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse. Holds a current Annual Practising Certificate. A relevant graduate and post-graduate qualification. Experience in implementing Te Tiriti o Waitangi in action.
