Electrician

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Electrician to join the team at McElrea Electrical. This is a full-time position based in Balclutha, Otago. As an Electrician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment across a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial projects. This role is crucial to ensuring the safety and reliability of electrical installations for our clients, and you will play a key part in upholding McElrea Electricals reputation for quality workmanship and professional service. Key responsibilities Install, test, and commission electrical wiring, equipment, and systems in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations Diagnose electrical faults and defects using appropriate testing equipment and troubleshoot problems efficiently Perform routine maintenance and repairs on existing electrical systems and equipment Install heat pumps and light refrigeration Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical codes, standards, and health and safety regulations Communicate effectively with clients, site supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work activities Maintain detailed records of work completed, materials used, and any issues encountered on site Conduct site inspections and assessments to determine project requirements and provide accurate quotations Use hand and power tools safely and maintain equipment in good working order Respond to emergency call-outs and provide prompt resolution to electrical faults and outages What we're looking for A valid New Zealand electrical practicioner's license (essential requirement) Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a qualified Electrician Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring practices, and relevant safety standards including the Health and Safety at Work Act Proficiency in using electrical testing and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, circuit testers, and fault finders The ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation accurately Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail Strong communication and customer service abilities Physical fitness and the ability to work at heights and in confined spaces where required A valid driver's license and access to reliable transport Experience in a range of electrical disciplines including residential, commercial, or industrial work would be advantageous First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it What we offer Competitive remuneration reflecting your experience and qualifications Ongoing training opportunities to enhance your skills and stay current with industry developments Supportive team culture where your contributions are valued and recognized Access to modern tools and equipment Flexible working arrangements where possible A commitment to health and safety in all our operations A workplace where work-life balance is respected Employees are encouraged to maintain their wellbeing About us McElrea Electrical is a well-established electrical contracting company serving the Balclutha and wider Otago region.
