Job Description

We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Vertex Group in Hamilton. This is a development role for someone with a solid engineering foundation who wants to gain hands‑on experience designing equipment and systems for industrial, manufacturing, water and wastewater projects. Working alongside experienced mechanical, process, automation and project engineers, you’ll develop your technical capability while contributing to real projects from concept through to commissioning. About the role You’ll support the engineering team by: Producing 3D models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Assisting with the design of mechanical equipment and systems. Performing engineering calculations and equipment selection. Supporting manufacturing, factory acceptance testing and commissioning activities. Assisting with technical proposals, estimates and supplier engagement. About you You’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems, learning from experienced engineers and seeing your designs become reality. Ideally, you’ll have: A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. Around 1-3 years’ experience in a mechanical design or engineering role. Experience using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. A sound understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes. Strong communication and organisational skills. A proactive attitude and willingness to learn. Experience within manufacturing, industrial processing or water and wastewater is advantageous but not essential. Why Vertex Group?
