Magnetic Recruitment – Wanganui, North Island Environmental Engineer - 12-Month Maternity Leave CoverManawatū-Whanganui | Fixed-Term Opportunity A hands-on environmental engineering role combining fieldwork, asset management, compliance and site development. We are working with a well-established organisation operating a significant waste management and environmental infrastructure facility in the Manawatū-Whanganui region. They are looking for an Environmental Engineer to join their team on a 12-month maternity leave cover. This is a highly practical, hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being out on site, working with infrastructure, solving problems and taking ownership of environmental and engineering outcomes. You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. The role involves a strong mix of fieldwork, environmental monitoring, asset management, landfill gas and leachate systems, site development and compliance, supported by a team of environmental technicians. You will play an important role in the day-to-day management and development of the site, ensuring environmental systems are operating effectively and all relevant consent and regulatory requirements are met. Your responsibilities will include: Providing practical engineering and environmental support to site operations Overseeing landfill gas and leachate systems and associated infrastructure Spending significant time in the field monitoring environmental systems and identifying issues Managing and maintaining environmental assets including pipework, pumps, valves, wells and well heads Supporting landfill gas development and construction works Supervising contractors and coordinating practical repairs and site works Ensuring construction and development activities comply with approved designs, consents and requirements Reviewing environmental monitoring results and identifying emerging risks Supporting environmental compliance and resource consent requirements Managing and maintaining accurate records of monitoring, site works and remedial actions Working with councils, regulators, consultants, contractors and operational teams Providing direction and support to environmental technicians and operational staff Supporting waste acceptance requirements and compliance activities as required A hands-on engineering roleThis role would suit someone who is comfortable getting out of the office and getting involved in the practical side of the operation. You may have experience across: Environmental engineering or environmental science Civil or mechanical engineering Water or wastewater infrastructure Treatment plants Environmental monitoring Asset management and maintenance Civil construction and site development You don't necessarily need previous landfill experience. What is important is that you are practical, technically capable and comfortable working in an operational environment where you need to identify problems, work out solutions and see them through. We are looking for someone who: Has a relevant Environmental, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or related qualification, or strong relevant practical experience Is confident working with physical infrastructure and equipment Enjoys spending time in the field and working alongside operational teams Can interpret environmental data and identify potential issues Can communicate effectively with councils, regulators and other stakeholders Is organised and able to manage multiple priorities Has a practical, solutions-focused approach What is on offer? 12-month fixed-term maternity leave cover Attractive salary and tool of trade vehicle Standard working hours generally starting between 8.00am and 9.00am On-call roster approximately every three weeks, with a $400 weekly allowance when rostered A genuinely hands-on engineering and environmental role A strong mix of fieldwork, asset management, environmental monitoring and compliance A role where you can make a tangible impact on the operation and environmental performance of the site If you're an Environmental Engineer, Environmental Scientist, Civil Engineer, Mechanical Engineer or experienced technical professional looking for a hands-on, field-based role where no two days are quite the same, we'd be keen to hear from you. #J-18808-Ljbffr
