Senior Java/React Developer

Beyond Recruitment - Wellington, North Island We're seeking experienced Senior Java/React Developers to join a high-performing engineering team responsible for designing, developing and evolving enterprise applications that support critical operational services throughout New Zealand. These applications deliver real-world outcomes by helping users access information, manage investigations, capture digital records, improve workforce safety, and support operational decision-making. As a Senior Developer, you'll be responsible for developing high-quality solutions, contributing to technical design, mentoring less experienced developers, and helping drive engineering excellence across multiple product teams. What You'll Be Doing Design, develop, test and maintain enterprise-scale applications using Java and React Build secure, scalable and highly available software solutions Develop and enhance APIs, integrations and backend services Participate in architecture and solution design discussions Analyse complex business requirements and translate them into technical solutions Produce clean, efficient and maintainable code Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards Support production applications and resolve technical issues Mentor junior and intermediate developers Work collaboratively within Agile product teams Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across software delivery practices What We're Looking For Technical Skills Strong commercial experience with Java development Commercial experience building modern user interfaces using React Experience working with REST APIs and integration services Strong knowledge of software architecture and design patterns Experience with version control systems such as Git Understanding of database design and data modelling principles Experience supporting and enhancing enterprise applications Knowledge of application security, performance optimisation and quality engineering practices Experience working in Agile delivery environments Soft Skills Excellent communication skills Strong analytical and problem-solving ability Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders Adaptable and comfortable working across different products and projects Passion for mentoring and supporting team development Collaborative approach to delivering outcomes What's On Offer Permanent opportunity Wellington (Porirua) or Christchurch Salary approximately $135,000 - $145,000 Flexible working options Modern technology environment Large-scale enterprise applications Strong engineering community and career development opportunities Only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply for this position.
