About the role We are seeking to appoint a Haematologist to providecomprehensive specialist care across both malignant and non-malignanthaematology services, with a focus on allogeneic stem cell transplantation.Applicants with experience as a Stem Cell Transplant Physician or who havecompleted a recent Stem Cell Transplant Fellowship are strongly encouraged toapply. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality,patient-centred care while contributing to efficient and sustainable servicedelivery. As a Haematology Consultant, you will provide expert clinicalleadership across outpatient clinics, inpatient services, and laboratoryoversight. Your expertise in transplantation with help shape the transplantservice both locally and nationally. You will work collaboratively acrossoperational areas and within multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated,seamless care for patients. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to work in close partnership withthe Clinical Leader of Oncology and the Director of Medical Services. Keyresponsibilities include the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management ofpatients referred to the Wellington Blood and Cancer Haematology Service, as wellas contributing to service development, quality improvement initiatives,clinical governance, and teaching. About the Team/Service/ Location The Wellington Blood, Cancer and Palliative CareService provides Clinical Haematology, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Oncologyservices across the districts of Wellington, Kenepuru, Hutt Valley, andWairarapa, serving a combined population of approximately 600,000. The Haematology Service delivers comprehensiveinpatient and outpatient care and manages a broad spectrum of haematologicalconditions, including acute leukemia, lymphoma, autologous and allogeneic stemcell transplantation, Car-T therapy (via clinical trial), plasma exchange, anddisorders of haemostasis and thrombosis. Inpatient services are provided atWellington Hospital , with outpatient clinics delivered across multiple sitesto ensure accessible regional care. Wellington Hospital is also a teritiary referral centre for allogeneic stemcell transplantation and has a catchment population of around 1.1 million. Wework collaboratively with the other two allogeneic centres (Auckland CityHospital, Christchurch Hospital) in all aspects of transplantation, includingforums for complex case discussions, national service provision, guidelines andresearch. The department maintains an active clinical researchprogramme, including participation in clinical trials. It is an accreditedFRACP training centre and is strongly committed to medical education, providingstructured teaching and supervision for House Officers, Senior House Officers,and Registrars. Multidisciplinary case meetings (Tumour Boards) areheld both locally and regionally to support collaborative, high-quality patientcare. Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu. About you Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Haematology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) FRACP or equivalent to be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ Expertise in clinical haematology and stem cell transplantation, diagnostics, and therapeutics in complex hospital settings Recent experience as an Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant Physician or Fellow Proficient competency in the management of Malignant and Non- Malignant Haematological diagnoses: medical expertise, communication, collaboration, advocacy, scholarship, professionalism Dedicated to coordinated multidisciplinary teamwork and improving patient care systems Record of audit, teaching, and clinical research commitment Proficient in IT, and medical databases.
