Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role Based in Wellington, you'll play a senior, hands-on role within our geotechnical team, working across a genuinely varied caseload of council and consenting projects, earthquake-prone building assessments, and general geotechnical advisory work. This isn't a role built around chasing large transport tenders. It's steady, technically engaging work where you can see your input translate directly into projects that get built. You'll be relied on for strong calculation and modelling work, not just technical review, and you'll work closely with clients, council staff, and colleagues across other disciplines to identify risk, resolve ground challenges, and deliver sound, defensible advice. The team is busy and well-regarded, so they're able to move quickly for the right person. About You You will be an experienced geotechnical engineer with strong technical capability and a genuine appetite for calculation and modelling work. You will be comfortable engaging directly with council and navigating consenting processes, and you bring broad geotechnical experience rather than a narrow specialism. Ideally you will have: Roughly 7+ years of geotechnical design experience Strong, hands-on calculation and modelling ability Comfortable working directly with councils on consenting and advisory matters Broad geotechnical experience, including exposure to earthquake-prone building assessments CPEng status is ideal, but not essential Sound understanding of New Zealand's geotechnical risks and regulatory environment A senior role with genuine technical influence, not just a reviewing function The backing and technical resources of a large multidisciplinary consultancy Exposure to varied council, consenting, and infrastructure-related work A collaborative, busy team environment with support from experienced senior colleagues A clear pathway to broaden your influence and leadership within the practice Ready to step into a senior role where your calculations, your judgement, and your name on the report carry real weight with council and central government clients?
