Health Care Assistant

We are looking for Health Care Assistants to join our caring and professional aged care team in Montecillo Veterans Home & Hospital in South Dunedin, Otago. This is an excellent opportunity for compassionate individuals to join our dedicated team. We welcome applications from interested individuals who are available to work across both shifts within our 24/7 service (Monday-Sunday). There is potential to take on additional hours over time. No experience is required, as full training and orientation will be provided to the successful candidates in. There are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and gain aged care qualifications here, from entry level through to advanced. Health Care Assistants - Entry Level We are increasing hours across our morning and afternoon shifts and are looking for caring people who want to build meaningful rapport and commitment with Montecillo residents and team. These shifts are on a 4-on, 2-off rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays, and are ideal for those who can work well both independently and as part of a team. These roles are ideal for those seeking regular part-time hours while gaining experience in aged care. AM shift: 7.00am - 11.00am PM shift: 6.00pm - 10.00pm For this role, qualifications in aged care are an advantage but are not essential, as full training, orientation, and ongoing support will be provided. For the Entry-level HCA, your hours are flexible and can be between 16 to 20 hours per week, with the opportunity to increase these hours subject to mutual agreement. For this entry level role hourly rate would be between $24.84 and $26.34 About the role As a Health Care Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting residents to live with dignity, comfort, and independence. You will work alongside a supportive clinical team to meet residents’ daily needs and support their overall wellbeing. Key responsibilities Assisting residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) Observing, monitoring, and reporting changes in residents’ health to Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses Contributing to care plans and resident wellbeing Completing electronic documentation accurately – computer literacy. Following policies, procedures, and aged care regulations Completing training and attending meetings to uphold our high standards of care About you Qualifications in aged care are an advantage, but not essential, as full training, orientation, and ongoing support will be provided A positive attitude and willingness to learn Flexible with shifts and able to work well as part of a team Excellent verbal, written, and reading communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills A good level of fitness, as shifts can be physically demanding and fast-paced.
