Electronics Components Engineer

Pertronic Industries – Wingate, North Island Pertronic Industries designs and manufactures advanced fire detection equipment in its Wellington region facility. We also have sales and distribution offices in Auckland, Christchurch, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Phoenix (USA). We are a team of approximately 160 people with over 130 people based in the Lower Hutt head office facility. This office is only 100m away from the Wingate train station. We manufacture many different products and are experiencing significant growth in our domestic and overseas markets. What you’ll be doing As our Electronics Components Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting and enhancing Pertronic's range of fire detection and alarm products. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on product sustainment, component lifecycle management, continuous improvement, and ensuring our products remain reliable, compliant, and commercially viable. While this role includes hardware design activities, the primary focus is maintaining and improving existing products rather than developing entirely new platforms. Key responsibilities include: Managing electronic component obsolescence and identifying suitable replacement components. Assessing the impact of component substitutions on product performance, reliability, compliance, and manufacturability. Designing, implementing, and validating hardware improvements and modifications to existing products. Updating schematics, PCB documentation, bills of materials, and technical documentation. Developing and executing product verification and validation testing. Investigating hardware-related production and field issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions. Providing technical support to manufacturing, quality, procurement, and customer support teams. Working closely with suppliers and manufacturers to manage component availability, quality, and technical compliance. Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, maintainability and long-term product support. What We're Looking For We're seeking an engineer who combines strong technical capability with a practical and methodical approach to problem solving. You will bring: A degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (or equivalent). Strong understanding of analogue and digital electronics. Experience managing component substitutions, obsolescence, component end-of-life risks, and product lifecycle challenges. Experience analysing, troubleshooting, and modifying electronic circuit designs. Experience with Altium Designer or similar PCB CAD software. Confidence using laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, multimeters, and power supplies. Strong technical documentation and reporting skills. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Knowledge of EMC, safety and environmental compliance requirements would be beneficial.
