Radiation Oncology Registrar - Wellington Hospital

Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora – Masterton, North Island 5d ago , from Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand Based at Wellington Regional Hospital Start 31 August 2026 This is a non-training role and a goodopportunity for someone wanting to know more about this specialty, with aview to potentially training in radiation oncology You will be responsible for clinical management of patients in afully supported training environment and be joining a team of 10 radiationoncologists and 7 trainee registrars. Most of our patients are outpatients with a small number ofinpatients, on average 5 per week. You will be responsible for managingthe inpatients along with the other registrars and a ward based houseofficer. You will attend outpatient clinics with a radiation oncologist tosee new and follow up patients. You will participate in an acute roster assessing patientsreceiving radiation treatment. You will participate in an after-hours on call roster, includingweekends till 11pm, a 1 in 8 rotation. RMO salaries are calculated based on relevantprevious years of experience and the average weekly hours of work as set out inthe relevant run description. For the current salary bands, please refer toeither the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (SToNZ) or Resident Doctors'Association (RDA) Single-Employer Collective Agreements. The Wellington Blood and Cancer Centre (WBCC) atWellington Hospital serves patients from Wellington, Kapiti Coast, Hutt Valley,Wairarapa and Nelson/Marlborough, seeing over 1200 new radiation oncologypatients per annum. All radiation treatment is delivered at WellingtonHospital. There are peripheral clinics at Hutt hospital, Masterton Hospital,Kenepuru Hospital, and Wairau Hospital. Wellington also offers supra-regionalservices for gynaecological brachytherapy. The WBCC is an integrated department with medicaloncology, haematology and palliative care. Multidisciplinary team meetings existfor all the major tumour types. The department has its own research unit tosupport participation in clinical trials. The radiation department has 3 VarianLinear Accelerators, a skin unit, a high dose brachytherapy suite, a wide-boreplanning CT scanner, and utilises the Eclipse planning system. We offergynaecology and prostate brachytherapy , stereotactic treatment for brain, lungand some palliative sites, and total body irradiation. This is a great role for someone interested inradiation oncology training, or oncology in general. Candidates must have completed at least 2 years post-graduateclinical work experience and therefore be PGY3 or above by the rolecommencement date to be considered for this position You must have eligibility for general or provisional generalregistration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
