Job Description
Kiwitech is an owner/operated, established, family business. We are a fast growing, small innovative manufacturing company that makes products used in electric fencing, livestock watering systems and animal handling that we sell direct, worldwide (https://www.kiwitechinternatinal.com). We currently have a vacancy for an experienced design and toolmaker/development engineer with strong CAD/CAM and CNC skills. The candidate will work directly with Harry Wier and be involved with the planning, designing, prototyping, testing, and documenting of a major project currently in development. This project is aimed at transforming pastoral farming with a very strong emphasis on sustainability. Applicants who have some connection with grass-based farming and/or an interest in contributing to a mission aimed at turning NZ pastoral farming into an environmental champion are especially valued. Important characteristics for this role are: Technical skills – reasonable knowledge and experience of manufacturing processes, toolmaking, engineering materials, mechanisms, principles of mechanics. Proficiency in common software applications. Experience – the applicant must have experience in precision engineering and die-making. This is a development role, so experience and skills in the whole product development life cycle is a plus. Open-mindedness – many of products and manufacturing processes are unorthodox and we tend to step well outside existing paradigms and industry-standard products. Practicality – Kiwitech’s foremost focus is devising products and systems that really work well in a farming context. Usually, this means achieving technical and design breakthroughs that render a minimalist, elegant, reliable and effective solution. Leadership – there is scope in this role to lead to management responsibilities, so skills and interest in this domain are relevant. Collaboration skills – ability to articulate and absorb technically complex ideas. about technical subjects plus the associated interpersonal skills involved in getting the best contribution from every member of the development team. Work ethic and focus – we are a small company tackling big and technically difficult projects, we are looking for someone who loves problem-solving and thinking outside the square. The position is in Bulls (between Palmerston North and Whanganui) and this role would suit someone prepared to live locally. We are very open to negotiation on terms and conditions of employment and take the view that people should be paid according to their ability to add value to the company (in the broadest sense). As a small growing company there are great opportunities for career advancement at Kiwitech. Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work permit and currently reside in NZ. We would like to thank all applicants for their interest, however only shortlisted candidates will be contacted at this time. #J-18808-Ljbffr
