The JB Hi-Fi New Zealand business has experienced significant growth in recent years, expanding its store network and continuing to grow its online and commercial channels. About the role This is an excellent opportunity to step into a newly created Senior Legal Counsel role. Reporting to the Head of Legal - New Zealand, and forming part of the broader JB Hi-Fi Group legal team, you will play an integral part in providing effective, high-quality legal support to the JB Hi Fi New Zealand business. This is a stimulating, hands‑on position that will see you taking ownership of matters, building strong relationships across all levels, influencing outcomes, and contributing to the ongoing growth and success of the business. The scope of work offers genuine variety including contract drafting and negotiation, reviewing promotional and marketing campaigns, advising on consumer law, privacy and intellectual property, delivering legal compliance training, and supporting the business on new initiatives and projects. This is a part‑time role comprising 3 days per week (or equivalent), based primarily at JB Hi‑Fi New Zealand’s support office on Auckland’s North Shore, with scope for hybrid working flexibility. What we are looking for Qualified lawyer with NZ practising certificate (or eligibility to hold one) Senior level experience (a minimum of 6 years’ PQE) gained in private practice or in-house, ideally with exposure to general commercial law or consumer law Strong analytical and contract drafting/negotiation skills Ability to work on matters with limited supervision and provide pragmatic, commercially focused advice Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey advice clearly and build relationships of trust and confidence An adaptable mindset with the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving environment A proactive and positive working style, with enthusiasm and curiosity This is an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant, fast growing, high‑energy business and contribute your skills as part of a high‑performing, collaborative legal team.
