The Opportunity We’re seeking an experiencedOperations Managerto lead our earthworks operations and ensure projects across the Canterbury Region are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. Based in Christchurch this is a key leadership role overseeing day‑to‑day operations, scheduling, machinery, yard activity, customer relationships, and business performance for the earthworks division. You’ll be responsible for driving high standards across health and safety, service delivery, and team performance, while ensuring resources are well‑planned and work is executed to specification. Key Responsibilities Leadership, Health & Safety Champion a strong safety culture across worksites, the yard, and all operational activities. Ensure full compliance with H&S policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, site audits, and incident reviews. Operational Management Oversee all earthworks operations from planning to delivery. Coordinate labour, machinery, subcontractors, and materials to ensure projects run smoothly and efficiently. Manage daily scheduling and workflow for crews and equipment. Ensure work is completed to specification, on time, and to quality standards. Business performance for the earthworks division. Prepare pricing, estimates, and project costings. Monitor budgets, productivity, and financial performance. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability. Build strong relationships with builders, contractors, engineers, and suppliers. Provide exceptional service and communication across all stages of a project. Manage customer expectations and resolve issues quickly. Machinery, Yard & Asset Management Oversee maintenance, servicing, repairs, and compliance for all machinery and vehicles. Maintain an organised, safe, and efficient yard and work area. Manage stock, materials, deliveries, and waste handling. Support long‑term asset planning and machinery utilization. About You Experience in earthworks, civil construction, transport, or related fields. Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage teams. Excellent understanding of earthworks machinery and safe operating practices. Commercially savvy, with experience in pricing, budgeting, or P&L control Highly organized with strong planning and prioritization skills.
