Job Description

Anexa is a leading veterinary business, operating 11 clinics across the greater Waikato and Hauraki Plains. Cognosco, is the internationally recognised research division of Anexa. Cognosco has been operating for more than 25 years and has undertaken more than 200 on-farm research studies, predominantly in the areas of mastitis and reproduction, of dairy cattle. The group undertakes predominantly applied research, with a strong focus on real-world problems facing herd owners, veterinarians and the dairy industry. The Role Based in Morrinsville, Waikato, the purpose of the role is to provide hands‑on technical skills and support in the day‑to‑day management of research projects. You will work alongside our internal laboratory team, Research Technicians and Research Project Managers. This entry level role is varied and will take you from the office, out on farms and even into the laboratory. Key tasks of the position On farm collection of data and samples from cattle, other livestock and pasture Data entry and retrieval using computer software such as Access databases, Excel and MINDA Sample handling from collection through to laboratory submission Liaising with herd owners and other staff to ensure timely and accurate collection of samples and data. Training and supervision of technical assistants and temporary technical assistants who may be employed to aid with sample collection through peak work periods. Assisting commercial technician teams when required Assisting within the in‑house laboratory as required Contributing practical ideas for study design and development of standard operating procedures Communicating effectively with herd owners, veterinarians and other internal staff Qualifications and competencies of our ideal candidate A degree in Veterinary Technology, Agricultural, Animal, or Biological sciences. Confidence and competence in handling livestock (mainly cattle). Ability to communicate effectively with herd owners, farm staff, veterinarians and internal staff. Competence in operating computer software including word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Excellent attention to detail. Be flexible with working hours as seasonal sampling may require extended hours (including early mornings and occasional weekend work). Be able to manage differing time pressure demands from multiple studies which may be occurring simultaneously. Have excellent numeracy and literacy skills Ability to work unsupervised Strong time management and planning skills.
