Lead Java/React Developer

Beyond Recruitment – Wellington, North Island We're looking for an experienced Lead Java/React Developer to provide technical leadership across a portfolio of enterprise digital products that support operational services used nationwide. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll combine solution architecture, software engineering, mentoring and stakeholder engagement to deliver scalable, secure and high-performing applications. You’ll play a key role in shaping technical direction while helping development teams deliver exceptional outcomes. Technical Leadership with Purpose Lead the design and development of enterprise applications using Java and React Define technical approaches, architecture and development standards Drive engineering best practices across development teams Lead system design activities and evaluate complex solution options Provide technical coaching and mentoring to developers Conduct technical reviews and quality assurance activities Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects and business stakeholders Guide teams through complex delivery and production support challenges Ensure solutions meet performance, security and availability requirements Support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives What We're Looking For Technical Expertise Extensive experience developing applications using Java and React Experience leading technical teams and software delivery initiatives Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and system design Experience designing distributed applications and integrations Expertise in software engineering standards and development methodologies Strong understanding of database design principles Experience managing production support and application lifecycle activities Strong Agile delivery experience Leadership Skills Proven mentoring and coaching capability Strong stakeholder engagement skills Excellent communication and influencing ability Ability to lead technical decision-making Commercial mindset and customer-focused thinking Strong problem-solving and risk management capabilities What's On Offer Permanent opportunity Wellington (Porirua) or Christchurch Salary approximately $155,000 Meaningful technology programmes Flexible working arrangements Opportunity to influence technical strategy Collaborative and skilled engineering teams Only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply for this position.
