About the Opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga We’re looking for a Senior Packaging Technologist – Material Testing to join our Packaging and Artwork Technical team, supporting the delivery of safe, fit-for-purpose packaging materials across our Co-operative. In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring our packaging materials meet food safety, quality and product functionality requirements through material properties testing, weighing of materials, vendor report review and technical assessment. You’ll be involved in the creation and maintenance of packaging specifications, including supporting appropriate packaging test limits and validation requirements for commercialisation. You’ll also help manage packaging material testing requests through the packaging testing laboratory, balancing priorities to support commercialisation, complaints, compliance activities and continuous improvement across the Packaging Testing Service Level Agreements. When material testing demand allows, you’ll flex into lower-complexity packaging compliance support, including supplier information gathering, questionnaire review, documentation collation, system updates and preparation of evidence packs for peer review or sign-off. You’ll work closely with product technical, process technical, manufacturing, packaging innovation, procurement, regulatory, vendor and food safety and quality teams to support packaging change, resolve issues and identify better ways of working. About You | Mōu You’ll bring strong practical packaging technology experience, ideally gained within dairy, food, beverage or FMCG manufacturing environments. You’ll be confident working with packaging material testing, specifications, supplier documentation and packaging compliance support processes, and you’ll know how to manage competing priorities without compromising quality, service levels or escalation requirements. We’re Looking For Someone With A tertiary qualification or equivalent on‑job experience in packaging technology, engineering, science, food technology or a related field. Proven experience in packaging or packing technology, ideally with 5+ years’ practical and/or theoretical packaging technologist experience. Strong understanding of packaging material testing, packaging specifications, supplier documentation and lower‑complexity compliance support activities. Experience working in food, beverage, dairy or FMCG manufacturing environments. Sound analytical skills, with the ability to identify packaging material issues, information gaps and opportunities for improvement. Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage testing requests from request through to delivery. Confidence working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including technical teams, manufacturing, vendors, regulatory, procurement and food safety and quality teams.
