Job Description

Dairy Trust Taranaki (DTT) is one of New Zealand’s leading independent dairy research, demonstration and extension organisations. We work alongside farmers, industry, researchers and education providers to deliver practical science that improves the profitability, sustainability and resilience of New Zealand dairy farming. We’re looking for a Science Technicianto join our team on a 12-month fixed-term, full-time basis (40 hours per week), starting on 7th September 2026. This role supports a range of externally funded and industry-led projects across our science programme. About the role Reporting to the Head of Science, you’ll support the delivery of a diverse range of science projects across DTT’s farms, working alongside our science and farm teams to ensure high-quality research outcomes. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting field trials and research activities across DTT farms. Collecting, recording and managing research data. Assisting with pasture, crop and animal measurements and sampling. Supporting laboratory and sample processing activities. Assisting with project coordination and administration. Helping prepare reports, presentations and project documentation. Supporting field days, farm visits and stakeholder events. Working collaboratively with farm teams, researchers and industry partners. Contributing to the successful delivery of nationally recognised science programmes. About you We’re looking for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is highly organised and has a genuine interest in agriculture and applied science. Ideally you will have: A qualification in Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Environmental Science or a related discipline (or be working towards one). Practical farming experience or a good understanding of pasture-based dairy systems. Excellent attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong organisational and time management skills. The ability to work independently and as part of a team. Confidence using Microsoft Office applications. A current full New Zealand driver’s licence.
