Tautoko Mai Sexual Harm Support is a dedicated charity working across Tauranga, Waikato, and Whakatāne, committed to creating a society free from sexual and family harm. We provide education, prevention, and specialist support to individuals and whānau affected by sexual harm. To walk beside individuals and whānau impacted by sexual and family harm, supporting safety, recovery, and lasting change for themselves and their communities. We are seeking an experienced Social Worker / Tauwhiro to join our Crisis Services team based in Hamilton. This role provides immediate, trauma‑informed, and culturally responsive support to people who have experienced recent or historic sexual harm. You will support clients impacted by family harm and sexual harm, across a wide range of ages from children through to adults, to navigate crisis, plan for safety, and access practical and emotional supports. The role involves working within strong community networks and liaising closely with a wide range of professionals, including Police, Oranga Tamariki, and Court staff, and, where required, supporting clients through the criminal justice system. You will work with a high level of autonomy, while contributing as part of a supportive, collaborative multi‑disciplinary team culture grounded in reflective practice and strong clinical and professional standards. We have offices in Tauranga and Whakatāne. From time to time, travel to these sites will be required and will be expensed. What You’ll Do Provide crisis support to individuals and whānau impacted by sexual and family harm Support clients to navigate immediate and ongoing safety needs Assist clients to access practical, emotional, and community‑based supports Work collaboratively with Police, Oranga Tamariki, Court staff, and other partner agencies Support clients through criminal justice processes, where required Maintain clear, accurate, and confidential records in line with best practice Participate in reflective practice, supervision, and team development Contribute positively to a respectful, supportive, and values‑led team culture You will have: You will be a registered Social Worker with the New Zealand Social Workers’ Registration Board, holding a current Annual Practising Certificate. At least 3–5 years’ social work experience, ideally in violence and sexual abuse, across teens and adults A strong understanding of trauma and its impacts on physical, spiritual, emotional, and mental wellbeing Emotional maturity, sound professional judgement, and clear professional boundaries The ability to work effectively with people from diverse social backgrounds, including when individuals are distressed or agitated Strong de‑escalation skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure Resilience, and a commitment to being supportive and respectful within a team environment Clear, open, and honest communication skills A consistent approach to respecting the knowledge and expertise within the team, regardless of role or length of service Cultural competence, including knowledge of tikanga, te reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi Confidence working with diverse cultural expression and identity, including different origins and ethnicity, faith, gender and/or sexual identity, and lived experiences Experience working collaboratively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team Ability to build and maintain strong community networks Experience working with a wide variety of professionals, including Police, Oranga Tamariki, and Court staff Why Tautoko Mai?
