Job Description

Grada Recruitment – Christchurch, South Island A busy engineering team in Christchurch is looking to bring on an experienced engineer, backed by the resources of a large, global multidisciplinary consultancy. Workload has been outpacing the team's current bench strength due to winning an influx of work, so whoever comes in won't be easing into an established groove. You'll be making an immediate, visible difference from week one. About the Role Based in Christchurch, you'll take on genuine design ownership across a broad and varied project mix, spanning public-private partnerships and major buildings work, council infrastructure, and seismic assessment. This isn't a role where you'll be siloed into one sector or waiting years for meaningful responsibility; there's real scope to shape how the team operates and see your input translate directly into projects that get built. You’ll be relied on for solid, hands‑on design work with a strong working knowledge of the Building Code, and you'll need to be comfortable operating with a good degree of independence given the current size of the engineering bench. You'll work closely with clients, council staff, and colleagues across other disciplines to resolve technical challenges and deliver sound, defensible advice. Key Skills You’ll be an experienced engineer with strong, design capability and an appetite for taking ownership of your work. You’re comfortable operating with autonomy, and you bring broad experience across projects rather than a narrow specialism. You will bring: Roughly 7 to 10 years of design experience Solid knowledge of the NZ Building Code Capacity to work independently, given the current size of the team CPEng status is ideal, though there’s flexibility here Sound understanding of New Zealand’s engineering and regulatory environment A busy engineering team in Christchurch is looking to bring on an experienced engineer, backed by the resources of a large, global multidisciplinary consultancy. A senior role with design ownership from day one, not just a supporting function The backing of a large global engineering network, giving you access to international technical resources, standards, and specialists that a standalone NZ firm typically can't offer A genuine technical career pathway (technical or principal track), rather than a route that only leads into people management Exposure to a broad project mix across major buildings, council infrastructure, and seismic work Strong CPD and chartership support They also offer... Flexible working Ongoing professional development, coaching, and mentorship Professional membership support A reward and recognition program Paid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers Employee assistance program for you and your immediate family The team is ready to hire now as they have a solid pipeline of work incoming. If you enjoy work that's high-impact, and genuinely senior from the outset, we'd like to hear from you! #J-18808-Ljbffr
