ROLE OVERWVIEW We are seeking a passionate and skilled Mataora/Registered Clinician to join our dynamic team of Mataora. In this pivotal role, you will provide clinical oversight, guidance, support, advocate for, and collaborate with our team members to foster a culture of healing and resilience among whānau in distress throughout Te Tairawhiti. This is aFull-time position, Gisborne and East Coast Communities – Te Tairawhiti Integrating professional clinical practice with kaupapa Māori approaches, including Mahi a Atua, in alignment with Te Hiringa Matua’s Model of Care. To deliver culturally responsive, whanau-centered community mental health nursing grounded in Kaupapa Maori principles. This role supports Maori individuals, whanau and communities experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring care is holistic, equitable, and culturally safe. The Registered Clinician plays a vital role in improving mental health outcomes by integrating clinical excellence with tikanga Maori, supporting the mana motuhake of tangata whai ora and their whanau Key Responsibilities Provide clinical guidance & support with the team of Mataora, ensuring the delivery of evidence based & culturally competent care. Advocate for the integration of Mātauranga Māori healing practices in service delivery. Foster a supportive environment for team members to grow and develop their skills. Engage with whānau to understand their unique needs and provide whanau led support with hapu mama, papa, pepi & whanau. Facilitate active wānanga for team development and community engagement. Collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders to enhance service delivery. Registration in either Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or Addiction Practitioners' Association Aotearoa New Zealand (DAPAANZ) Full, clean NZ Driver's License Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Nursing (or commitment to attain) Registration in either Nursing, Social Work, Psychology or Addiction Practitioners' Association Aotearoa New Zealand (DAPAANZ) or working towards Strong links with, and understanding of, local communities. Proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings. Proficiency in Mātauranga Māori healing practices or a strong willingness to learn and engage in active wānanga. Astute clinical assessment, analysis & planning preferably in addiction support or mental health services & infant/child health services. Strong understanding of the challenges faced by hapu mama and whānau in the context of addiction. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills. Commitment to cultural competence and sensitivity in all interactions Fluency or confidence in te reo Maori and understanding of Ngati Porou tikanga Resides within the rohe or has strong connections to the community Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the Ottawa Charter Previous experience working in kaupapa Maori services or with Maori communities What we offer A supportive workplace and collaborative work environment, grounded in tikanga Māori.
