Key Responsibilities Property & Maintenance: Plan and operate a maintenance programme to ensure the high-standard upkeep of school buildings, grounds, furniture, plant, and machinery. This includes small trade/handyman repairs, general woodworking, minor plumbing, and painting. Health, Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly building safety checks. Maintain records in accordance with Ministry of Education and HSWA standards. Pool Management: Oversee the school swimming pool, including chemical dosing, water safety testing, vacuuming, and ensuring the facility is clean and functional (training will be provided). Grounds & Cleanliness: Keep lawns, hedges, and gardens beautifully maintained. Oversee overall school cleanliness, manage waste/recycling, and handle occasional spot cleaning or spill management. Security: Take responsibility for the school’s security, including morning unlocking/deactivation and evening lock-up, as well as responding to emergency calls outside of normal hours if required. Contractor Liaison: Coordinate and liaise with external contractors working on site, ensuring safe practices are followed. Administration & Budgeting: Keep accurate records (inventories, maintenance logs) and assist with budget tracking and future purchase planning. Our Ideal Candidate Experience: Preferably possesses experience in property maintenance or a related trade, with an eye for detail and the ability to turn their hand to general repairs, gardening, and woodworking. Attributes: A "can-do" attitude, plenty of common sense, hard-working, and always willing to go the extra mile. You must be a self-motivated team player who takes pride in our school environment. Communication: An excellent command of written and spoken English is essential, as you will regularly communicate with staff, contractors, and management, alongside providing monthly reports. License & Transport: A current clean driver’s licence and the use of your own registered, warranted vehicle is required for collecting small supplies (mileage will be reimbursed). Position Details & Hours Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm (includes a 30-minute unpaid lunch break from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm). Leave: All annual leave is to be taken during school holiday breaks. Remuneration: The hourly rate is covered by the School Caretakers’ and Cleaners’ Collective Agreement, dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications.
