Job Description
Continuous Improvement & Compliance Manager Regal Haulage is a growing New Zealand transport business focused on building a safer, more efficient and more consistent operation. As the business has grown, our policies, procedures, systems and compliance requirements have developed across different parts of the organisation. We are now looking for someone to bring these areas together, establish a clear and practical management system, and lead a structured programme of continuous improvement. This is not a traditional compliance or Health and Safety role. It is a broad operational improvement position for someone who enjoys understanding how a business works, identifying where it can improve and turning complex requirements into simple, practical systems that people will use. About the role Reporting to the National Operations Manager, the Continuous Improvement & Compliance Manager will work across Regal's transport, workshop, yard and administration functions. You will work closely with operational managers, frontline employees and the wider leadership team, with regular engagement with the Director on significant Health and Safety, compliance and business improvement matters. A key initial priority will be reviewing existing systems, policies, procedures, forms and records and bringing them together into one central, controlled and accessible management system. From there, you will work alongside the business to identify risk, remove duplication, improve consistency and ensure agreed improvements are implemented, measured and sustained. Key responsibilities Leading continuous improvement initiatives across the business. Reviewing and mapping operational processes to identify inefficiency, duplication, risk and unnecessary complexity. Working with managers and frontline teams to develop simpler and more effective ways of working. Establishing consistent policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, forms and checklists. Creating and maintaining a central, controlled source of company information. Ensuring documents are current, approved, easy to locate and understood by the people who use them. Supporting the ongoing development of Regal’s Health and Safety management framework. Assisting managers to identify, manage and review critical operational risks. Coordinating workplace inspections, audits, incident investigations and corrective actions. Using root-cause analysis to ensure incidents and recurring operational issues result in meaningful improvement. Monitoring transport, workplace, customer and other compliance obligations. Supporting customer, regulatory and internal audits. Maintaining clear visibility of improvement and compliance actions and ensuring they are followed through to completion. Developing practical measures to assess whether changes are delivering improved safety, efficiency, quality or service outcomes. Helping create a culture where employees identify problems, contribute ideas and take ownership of improvement. Providing regular reporting to the National Operations Manager and leadership team on safety performance, compliance risks, improvement projects and outstanding actions. Accountability and Support Operational managers will remain accountable for Health and Safety, compliance and operational performance within their areas. This role will provide the systems, expertise, coordination and assurance needed to support managers, challenge where required and ensure improvement actions remain visible and are completed. The position will also have direct access to the Director and senior leadership team where significant Health and Safety risks, serious compliance concerns or wider business issues require escalation. What Success Will Look Like Success in this role will mean: Our systems and procedures are centralised, controlled and easy to use. Managers have clear visibility of risks, responsibilities and outstanding actions. Health and Safety is practical, visible and embedded into everyday operations. Compliance obligations are actively managed rather than addressed only when an audit is approaching. Recurring problems are properly investigated and addressed at their underlying cause. Improvement projects are clearly defined, implemented, measured and sustained. Employees understand what is expected of them and why it matters. The business becomes safer, simpler, more consistent and more efficient. About you You will be a practical and commercially minded improvement professional who is comfortable moving between strategic thinking and frontline operations. You are likely to bring: Experience in continuous improvement, quality, compliance, Health and Safety, operational excellence or business systems. A strong ability to understand, analyse and improve operational processes. Experience developing practical policies, procedures and management systems. Confidence facilitating discussions, challenging existing ways of working and influencing change. Strong investigation, problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills. The ability to turn operational data, incidents and employee feedback into clear improvement actions. Strong project-management, organisational and follow-through skills. The ability to engage effectively with senior leaders, operational managers, drivers, workshop employees and administration teams. A hands-on, practical and solutions-focused approach. The confidence to escalat[e?] significant risks or concerns when required. Experience in transport, logistics, manufacturing, construction, agriculture or another operational environment would be highly regarded. Formal qualifications in continuous improvement, quality, Health and Safety or project management would be beneficial, but practical experience, sound judgement and the ability to achieve real operational change will be equally important. Why Regal This is an opportunity to build and shape an important business-wide function rather than simply maintain an established system. You will have the support of the National Operations Manager, regular access to senior leadership and the ability to influence how Regal operates as the business continues to grow. We are looking for someone who enjoys bringing order to complexity, solving recurring problems and helping people work more safely, consistently and effectively. #J-18808-Ljbffr
